Thoughts on today

I've been busy creating. I'm working so hard to make my shop on Etsy (www.itsybitsybabies.etsy.com) a success. Okay, well I've been looking around on the website a lot, seeing what other people are making, posting threads in the forums and wasting a lot of time. But I still look at it as a business endeavor. I'm so tired with all these kids I have that just to take out the equipment to make a blanket is like this overwhelming task. Once it's all out I'm fine and happy to be able to create but then the tiny box of a room feels really cramped and it gets messy and that makes me absolutely crazy and then it's just not happy anymore. I am really whacked out here.
But I actually got out of the house today and spent time at a fabric store and bought fabric, tangible fabric that I could see and touch and not just "click" through like I usually do online.
I think someday (soon!) I may have a bigger house and I will have my own space (even if it's just a walk-in closet--a walk-in closet would be absolutely wonderful) to set up my sewing machine and my mat and rulers and fabric and patterns and ideas and all the little embellishments I need to make my creations beautiful.
And to top off my day, me and my mom were walking with the kids downtown today and came across this new shop and had to go in. It drew us in with its whimsical sign and really cool furniture and assorted beauties in the window. It turns out this lady just opened the shop and is so creative and artsy and fun and nice and she buys stuff from other people! I could be one of those people. She just emailed me and looked at my Etsy stuff and loves it!
I am so excited now. Finally, things are coming together for me. I started my love of quilting a little over eight years ago when I was pregnant with Tatum and I haven't turned back.

Pole Dancing

My girls are very young right now. They're not quite at the point yet where I worry about what they'll be like when they're teenagers. Okay, sometimes I think about it but I try not to because I still feel like a teenager (although those years are loooooong gone). But I see Tatum, who is now seven and in first grade and growing very quickly--and quite a beauty, I must say. I see her and I think, wow, in just a few years--as many years as I have had her--she will be a teenager. She will probably be this thin, blond-haired, blue-eyed beaut and I will have no control over it. I envision us being rather close and being able to talk to her about anything. We're very open about everything. But she will be a teenager...sooner than I think, I suppose. Maybe she will give me trouble, maybe she won't. I have no way to tell that right now. Right now she's sweet and she thinks I am awesome. Although sometimes I see that she thinks she is smarter than me and I just roll my eyes right back at her.

But the title of this is pole dancing, so you may be wondering where I am going with this. I was walking into a store today, Portia and Stella with me. Portia was walking alongside me and right outside the store there were these cement columns a little taller than her. The first thing she did when she saw them was run right over to one, put her arms around it and twirl around and around. The first thing I thought was, oh no, not another pole... Obviously this was not the first time she twirled around a pole. Wherever she finds a pole, waiting in line at a store or wherever, she instantly goes for it. There is a draw to it for some reason. Okay, I guess that reason is completely innocent because she is three and an absolute monkey (she recently asked if we could put a jungle gym in our tiny living room). But I think about how she is now: trouble, and how adorable she is and to me, all I can think of is her wanting to pole dance when she gets older. Or at least be a bit more trouble than her older sister. So that's where my thoughts on pole dancing are today.
